An Investigation of Comparison of Health-Related Quality of Life and Grip Strength between Middle to Older Age Women With and Without Depression according to Age Groups

Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to compare the strength and health-related quality of life of depression in middle to older age women.

Method : Data were collected from 2015 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and 2,133 women aged 40 and over were analyzed. strength was measured grip strength, and health-related quality of life was assessed by EQ-5D. As a main analysis, comparisons according to depression were analyzed by independent t test.

Result : The incidence of depression in women aged 40 and over was 7.9%. Women with depression were older than women without depression (p=.002). Women with depression had lower in levels of education (p<.001), right grip strength (p=.001) and left grip strength (p<.001), and EQ-5D index and all subcategory of EQ-5D was low (p<.001) than women without depression. In the sub-analysis by age, Women with depression showed a tendency for limitation of self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort and decreased grip strength as the age increased compared to women without depression.

Conclusion : These findings suggest that a health promotion program for the of improvement of self-care and daily living and reduction of pain in elderly depressed women is needed.
